DAY 11 . GOVERNMENT

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” [1 Tim 2:1-2]

Since the beginning, God has entrusted humans with the project of ruling his creation.

Yet, whether through earnest imperfection or blatant corruption, we often fall short. One day, the risen Jesus, who himself now reigns over the world as a human and its true king, will call leaders to account. Yet rather than abandon human leadership, he calls us to pray for our leaders (even those we don’t like, would never vote for, or with whom we vehemently disagree), so that justice and human flourishing will result.
Pray for those in authority, that our public servants will pass and enforce just laws leading to human flourishing.

● For President Trump, his Cabinet, for the Congress
● For Governor Raimondo and the RI Assembly
● For civic leaders in Providence, the Mayor and City Council

Pray for law enforcement and courts at every level to act justly.
Pray for the 2020 Election, for the American public to wisely exercise our civic duty and elect wise and capable leaders.
Pray that our dependence in our government systems will not surpass our confidence in the kingdom of God.

O Lord, our governor, your glory shines throughout the world. We commend our nation to your merciful care, that we may live securely in peace and be guided by your providence. Give all in authority the wisdom and strength to know your will and to do it. Help them remember that they are called to serve the people as lovers of truth and justice; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
