EXPOSE

Search me, O God, and know my heart.

Try me, and know my thoughts.

And see if there is any wicked way in me,

And lead me in the way everlasting.

  • Psalm 139:23-24

The more we grow in our relationship with God, the more we hear him call us to be sanctified and transformed – set apart for his purposes, becoming more like Jesus. The Bible offers various metaphors for this process – a potter working with clay, a gardener pruning a vine, a refiner purifying silver. All of these involve God rolling up his sleeves, getting his hands into our mess, removing impurities or excesses, and reforming us to be more like him. If we want to be a church that embodies God’s love, power, and presence, we must submit to his loving – even if painful – work in our hearts.

Pray for God to refine us, that we would submit entirely to his wise and loving will.

Pray that God would expose and rectify corruption and false teaching in the American church at large.

Pray that we would always be humble, individually and together as a church, to receive the Lord’s correction and the fires of his refining.

DAILY PROMPT

Set aside 10 minutes or more today to pray:

  • Spend 5 minutes listening, allowing room in your heart for the Holy Spirit to speak
  • Spend 5 minutes responding to what God speaks, or praying that God would breathe new passion into people’s prayer lives. Think of 5 specific people each day, or the same 5 for the whole week.
