Tuesday 11.3

“He raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything”
Ephesians 1:20-22a

You’ve probably heard the reminder before – that no matter what happens, “God is still on the throne.”

In a time when so many are anxious, afraid, and fatigued, when we are uncertain the results of the American election and its consequences, it is critical for us to remember that as followers of Jesus, “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20), whose rule, reign, and rescue supersedes all human government in love, authority, and power. Whatever human governments may do, or whoever may be at their helm, the kingdom of God will continue to be active, the Spirit of God will continue to move, the mission of the church will stand, the good news of the resurrection will go forth, and the love of God will not relent in transforming hearts and lives. As it was in the time of the early church under the oppression of the Roman empire, it still is now: Jesus remains King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Pray for our faith and dependence in the lordship Jesus to increase.
Pray for his truth, peace, grace, joy, and rest for the tired, stressed, hurt, and worried.
Pray for God’s mercy in response to our idolatry, wrath, and violence.
Pray for healing, and restoration of unity and love where there is division and animosity.

Jesus, we thank you and praise you for your reign of perfect love and power. May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
