But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
In the Sermon on the Mount, where today’s scripture passage is from, Jesus teaches what to do when we are worried about our wellbeing. He names our worries – if we will have enough, how we will secure ourselves, what our future will be like. He reminds us that God knows what we need, and is a strong and loving Father who will be faithful to care for us. Jesus instructs us seek first God’s will and the things of his kingdom, and the things we worry for will be taken care of by God himself.
This week of First Seek, each day we’ll be asking God for his will to be done and his kingdom to come in a different area of our lives and world.
Set aside 10-15 minutes to pray today.
How is God calling us to reframe the things that trouble us, to think and pray from the perspective of prioritizing his kingdom? Invite God to call out your worries, trust him to provide, and ask how he wants you to seek first his kingdom.
