Thursday 1.14 | Addiction

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

The Scripture above speaks to God’s loving mercy and nearness to help us get out of what we are tempted to get into.

That perfect swear word to add power (well, what we think is power) to our joke. Just one drink is fine. This sale only happens today. I can stay on the web after 10pm. In all these choices/lies, God gives us a way out.

The truth can also be that you don’t want to be free from the addiction. You may actually enjoy it. Let God know. He can handle it. If you are sitting in shame from whatever it is, God is waiting to hear from you, wash and cleanse you with His love, and help you to walk away from whatever it may be that you are addicted to.

Set aside 10-15 minutes to pray today.

Be honest with where you are at. If you’re ok with your addiction, ask God to help you to see it for what it is and to help you want freedom from it. If you’re tired of the continuous loop, ask God to speak to the part of you that is hurting and numbing. Ask Him to help you get free from boredom, to remove yourself from unhealthy friendships, and/or for hope. Remember you are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and God knows how to clean house when you allow him to.
