“Come, all you who are thirsty,
    come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
    come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without cost.

Why spend money on what is not bread,
    and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
    and you will delight in the richest of fare.

Give ear and come to me;
    listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
    my faithful love promised to David.

Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call on him while he is near.

Let the wicked forsake their ways
    and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,
    and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”

— Isaiah 55:1-3, 6-7

God is always inviting us to seek Him—this quiet, constant call to come closer. Isaiah reminds us that seeking isn’t about striving or proving ourselves; it’s about responding to a God who is near, available, waiting, full of mercy. When we seek Him, we find Him. When we repent, He forgives. When we create space to seek Him, we can trust He’s already working, already speaking, already drawing us in. The trick is to set aside our distractions and make room for Him. To give Him permission.

That’s what we are doing this month. First Seek is our biannual rhythm of hitting reset and refresh on the seeking God and His Kingdom in our lives. We want seeking God to be our first response, not our last resort, as we begin a new year. We want this month to be a set of jumper cables that restart the engine of our intimacy with the Lord for the rest of the year.

Ways We’re Engaging Together This Month:

  • Daily Prayer Prompts: Each day, you’ll get a text, linking to a prompt to help you focus on God’s presence.
  • Fasting on Wednesdays: Choose the fast that is the right challenge for you. For some of you that may be skipping a meal on Wednesdays, for others it may be trying to fast for a whole day or longer.
  • Acts of Consecration: Ask God if there’s something specific He’s calling you to lay down or step into this season. You might consider abstaining from something (food, screens, alcohol) to create more space for God. You might consider if there is a discipline He’s inviting you to take on to focus on Him.
  • Heart Worship Night (Jan 15): Join us for a night of extended worship and seeking God together as a church. Put it on your calendar.

Today’s Prayer Prompt:
Read the Scripture passage above again, slowly and prayerfully. Perhaps read through it a couple times. Listen and pay attention for a word or phrase that pops out at you. Begin praying from that place.

As you pray, ask the LORD, “what does it look like for me to seek you this month?” Ask Him to soften your heart, to give you a deeper hunger for His presence. Invite the Holy Spirit to show you what rhythms need resetting as you begin the year.

A Few Things to Reflect On:

  • What has been distracting me from God and His presence and Kingdom?
  • What are the substitutes for God in my life?
  • How can I surrender all this to God?

Simple Prayer:
“God, I hear Your invitation to seek You. Show me how to create space for You in the middle of my life—space for Your word, Your voice, Your presence. Give me confidence that when I seek You, I will find You. Amen.”

Action Step:
Write down one way you will engage spiritually this week—whether it’s committing to daily prayer, planning your Wednesday fast, or some other way to make room for God. Consider texting a buddy and telling them about it.
