9/3/24 | First Tuesday First Seek

Opening Prayer

O God, the King Eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into morning, drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace, that having done your will with cheerfulness throughout the day, we may when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks. Amen.

Quiet

Spend a Moment in Silent, Centering Prayer. Become aware of the presence of God.

Scripture

14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” – Revelation 3:14-22

Pause. Remind yourself you are in God’s presence. And read the text again slowly, perhaps out loud. Ask the Holy Spirit, “What are you saying to me today? To our church? How does this word touch my life in this season.” Pay attention to anything the Holy Spirit highlights as you read. What stands out to you or catches your attention. Is there a rebuke, an encouragement, an invitation to receive? A command to obey? Start from that place and begin praying your thoughts to God. Receive God’s love and invitation for you. Give his word access to your heart.

Prayer for Renewal in the Church

  • Ask for a greater hunger for God Himself – to seek Him, to be with Him, to gaze on His beauty.
    • For yourself
    • For your family/close friends
    • For our church
  • Pray for our prayer meetings and prayer gatherings and Sunday morning gatherings, that our church would hear Jesus knocking on the door of our hearts, and welcome him in.
  • For God to banish apathy and lukewarmness from our hearts and lives this year.
  • For deeper and more intimate fellowship with Jesus.
  • For the revival dynamic to take root, starting with our own hearts.

Quiet

Spend a few more moments quietly with Jesus, listening to anything He wants to say, or simply just being with Him in his presence.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I know that like the Laodiceans, left to my own devices, my heart grows lukewarm and the spiritual temperature of my life reverts to that of the world around me. I bring my heart to you today, along with the hearts of all in this church. Holy Spirit, blow on the embers of our souls and rekindle in us a white hot first culture of first love for you. Take away all lukewarmness and apathy from me and from Sanctuary Church, and allow zeal for you and your house to consume us, as it did your Son Jesus. In His Name I pray, Amen.

Tuesday Prayer Room – 9am

(please note…today is our last Tuesday am prayer room, next week we will begin praying Mondays mornings)

64 Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
    that the mountains would tremble before you!
As when fire sets twigs ablaze
    and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name known to your enemies
    and cause the nations to quake before you!
For when you did awesome things that we did not expect,
    you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
    who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
    who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
    you were angry.
    How then can we be saved?
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
    and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
    and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
No one calls on your name
    or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
    and have given us over to[b] our sins.

Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
    We are the clay, you are the potter;
    we are all the work of your hand.
Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord;
    do not remember our sins forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
    for we are all your people.
10 Your sacred cities have become a wasteland;
    even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.
11 Our holy and glorious temple, where our ancestors praised you,
    has been burned with fire,
    and all that we treasured lies in ruins.
12 After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back?
    Will you keep silent and punish us beyond measure?

PRAYER GUIDE
